About Trans Fats

Hydrogenated Oils
  • Contain trans fat or trans fatty acids (TFA’s)
  • TFA’s appear to reduce HDL (good) cholesterol and increase LDL cholesterol
  • TFA’s are considered a medical risk – may contribute to heart disease.
  • Fully hydrogenated beef tallow may contain little or no trans fat, but will be high in saturated fat.
Non-hydrogenated Oils
  • Less saturated fat
  • Contain high levels of unsaturated fats that don’t elevate cholesterol levels
  • Little or no trans fat


Hydrogenated oils have been preferred for stability & product quality
