Potatoes are king in the Othello area and nearly half the nation’s French fries
are produced in Central Washington. Othello employees like to hike in the
spectacular channels scablands at the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge, bag
their limit of pheasant in area farm fields, catch a trout in the Potholes canal
area, or blast out on water skis from the sand dunes island beach. Family fun
includes the Adams County Fair and Rodeo and summer’s ongoing Sun Faire
celebration. We employee 545 people, and are one of the largest employers in
this area.
The Othello plant was built in 1963. McCain purchased the former Chef Reddy
plant in 1988 and soon began a series of major improvements that have
established the plant as a leader in french fry production. New product
introductions are key to the growth of Othello and other McCain potato plants.
We have a full line of conventional and battered french fries and specialty
potato products, including new X-Treme Fries and Smiles.
